It is possible that any entrepreneur, blogger, or website owner would want to shift their website to another hosting provider at some point. This can happen for many reasons.
Websites are difficult to make, but WordPress has made the process extremely easy, smooth, and user-friendly. Many small business owners and bloggers create their websites with WordPress because it is less technical and not very complicated.
Even with WordPress, shifting a website from one web host to another can be a really tricky task. But it can be done without any headache if you follow these practices.
Free Shifting of Website to Another Hosting Provider
Website migration is an extremely complicated task. You have to shift all of your databases to another web host.
However, the extreme competition between different web hosts has led towards ease in the website migration. There are several web hosts that would do the website migration for you without any cost.
All your files and databases will be shifted to the new site without any hectic activity from your side. It will all be done by the new web host.
All you would have to do is sign up for an account at the new web host and then request for the shifting of the website.
Shift Your Website Yourself
If your new web host does not provide the option of free website migration, then you can do it on your own.
You can ask your IT department to back up the files and database or if you are on your own, it’s time to put your IT skills to test.
A lot of hosting providers that do not offer free migration of your website will have a step-by-step guide on how you can transfer your old website to the new hosting provider.
Do Not Cancel Your Old Account
To those who are considering moving their website to another hosting provider, it would make sense to cancel their old account immediately. However, it is best practice to control your old domain and blog for at least six months after you switch providers. By doing this, you will be able to fix any possible future errors.
Make Small Transitions First
Whenever you are moving your website to a new hosting provider, you want to make sure that the transition is smooth and easily done. You should first shift only the subdomain or directory. After that, you can use 301 and redirect the pages permanently to the new hosting provider.
This is how Google Analytics will know that you’ve changed providers. You can also test on the search engine if your new site is showing. If it is, then you can transfer the complete site now.
